We install four types of decking, and they all have their pros and cons, which we’ll discuss with you during the planning stage.
Firstly, there is the relatively new rubber based decking. This is the ‘king of decking’ and we use a UK made product called Millboard. Rubber decking does not rot or wear out and is a lot less slippery when wet than wooden decking.
Next up is composite decking. This is manufactured from a mixture of wood and plastic and looks very much like wood, but obviously is more mechanically stable and less susceptible to rot.
The last two types are the more traditional wooden decking, both hard and soft wood. Hard wood is longer lasting, but more expensive to lay and buy than softwood.
We take just as much care, whichever material you choose, but in terms of material cost, you do get what you pay for. If you want it to last longer, generally it’s going to cost you more. If you choose wood, we will only use FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified, sustainable timber. If you want to use cheap imported, illegally logged hard wood we are not the company for you.
